Let's begin... 2 Timothy

I am so glad you are joining me in this study. If you don't have a Bible no worries I will list the verses as we study together. Let's dig right in. I am using the NIV version of the Bible and studying along with Charles Stanley's The Principles of Life Bible.

Paul writes to to Timothy, while he is in prison, this is his last epistle. Everyone seems to have deserted Paul and we see Paul asking Timothy to come see him. The Christian life wasn't meant to live alone. Many today have given up going to church due to business, hurts, or other things. It is so convenient to just turn on TBN or daystar and not go to church at all... but God calls some to be PASTORS.. A pastor is a gift to the church to "shepherd" and help us in our faith. Bottomline.. we need to be in church to grow in our faith.

The theme of 2 Timothy is to be alert and watch out for wrong teaching and to "cling" to the Truth. Remember the truth will set you free. We need to contend for the faith and stay true to it.
The author of the book is The apostle Paul

Written 66-67 A.D.

Nero had Paul executed.

Vs. 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus.

We see the conversation of Paul in the the book of Acts (go to crosswalk.com) to read the Bible there with the story of how Paul became a christian.

vs. 2 To Timothy, my beloved son; Grace, Mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

vs 3 I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefather's did. As I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day.

Here we see Paul faithful to the end. He was a Jewish man. His forefathers would be Abraham the Father of the Faith, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, etc.  We as Christians have been grafted in and now they are also our forefathers of the faith as children of faith.

vs. 4 Longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy.

Paul expresses his hope to see Timothy.

vs. 5 For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice , and I am sure that is in you as well.

Timothy is a third generation Christian. His grandmother - Lois, mother - Eunice and now Timothy. We that have had families in the faith must be mindful to stay true to the Lord and to pass on our faith to our children and their children so that all of our families will get to know the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and that no one misses out on going to heaven.

Please feel free to say hi to me on twitter @R47R and to ask any questions you would like about this study :)
7 days without prayer makes one weak.
